Rainy Weekends And Mondays

Monday I have Friday on my mind..
Last Friday.. The day I wrote a blog and lost it..
No biggie it sucked anyway…
I’m in my office and it’s not quiet and I can’t concentrate. Nothing I can do about that but work harder and faster..
Chad the painter from across the street has been over since yesterday doing the bedroom.. Today was wall scrape.. Wallpaper is off and the walls are being fixed from last year’s storm.. It took longer because the insurance held back on the roof repair check till it was just too hot to do wall repair and Chad couldn’t wait any longer and we lost our space in line for work..
In a way its better with Maia gone we use her room for all the dressers and stuff..
But I tell you at 2 am when you get up to pee and ram into a dresser and now have a bruise the size of Fort Knox on the thigh it’s not so fun.

This weekend was stormy.. And as much as I wanted to get out and get pics it was not happening.
In fact I did get out and get stuck in a bad part of the storm and had to drive very slow and take twice as long with freaked out kids driving home.
We had been at several Halloween stores trying to score a Bane costume. Dyl is going as Dark Knight Batman.. And of course Jack wants to be Bane.. Maia who won’t even be home is Batgirl..
Then we had a bad time at Steak and Shake. Where you get the steak burger first and when you are done eating they remember to bring your shake!
As the storm and wind and hail poured around us I saw Jack kinda freaked in the seat next to me. Dyl was in the back seat of the truck. He was a little scared but nothing like Jack.. Who asked a million questions about driving in rain. I was very patient with them for 20 mins as we finally passed over the Johnson road line that tells u s we are close to home.
As I turned the station to sing along and keep them both busy the new Sia song “Titanium” was playing.. as she starts singing “I’m bulletproof” the clouds make way and we drive through and out the storm. It’s over.. We are in the clearing.
I tell the boys to watch for rainbows.. Behind us is still hailing in front of us is clear and just grey..
Dyl says “Mom, the trees are the rainbow”
Sure enough we were driving alongside the most beautiful colors.
Red, Yellow Green, purple.. All the leaves and the full fall leaves.
It was on both sides of us.. A tunnel of rainbow. With fluffy grey and white clouds above.. I could not reach my phone and get a pic.. I wish I could but it was not safe to do so.
Not with Jack and Dyl in the car.. But I told them to take a picture with their minds.
Natures little miracle.
Jack was humming along to Sia and dancing. Yes Jack was dancing in his seat…
that in itself means he knows the song is his..
The irony of that is that is my latest Jack song. I sing that too him.. He is bulletproof. He is my Titanium..

Close your eyes.. This is the Midwest pictures I see..
Look behind you.. See the rain falling.. All dark. Look ahead through the windshield and see the trees and the turned leaves forming a tunnel straight down the street.. A full on solid tunnel of colors. Look below and the wet ground and the color much like skittles everywhere around you.. Look above to the grayish greenish blue sky.. See the cloud hovering..
That is my Midwest.. That is my fall.
Feel the happy children smiling.
That is my gift.

Bonus story today..
After school I needed to run to the bank so I took the boys to eat at Taco Hell.
As we sat there with jack poaching food off his brother’s plate I focused on the threesome at the next booth.
It was a caregiver and her two wards.. Both developmentally disabled men.. One in his late twenties and the other closer to my age. The one closer to my age was not as vocal.. But the younger one was telling his caregiver about the girl he liked. She was real pretty and smelled good. He went on to explain how he would be a good boyfriend because he had real good manners and ate well in public. She assured him that even though he was trying to impress a girl he should have real good manners and eat well in public anyway.. She was also so proud of the progress he was doing and how he was such a delight these days since he decided to start behaving and following the rules.
This went on for a bit..
And I had tears in my eyes thinking about how all he wanted was this girl to like him.. And how he was operating at a Middle school level in life. And I remembered how important it was back at that age to just be liked. And I hope to god this boy/man is liked. Cause his future girlfriend smelled real good.. And he has manners…
I wish all boys wanted to impress girls with manners!
We could learn a lot from him and his progress.. What seems so simple.. We all forget … We all forget…

This is a beautiful song… Listen to it and think of Jack.. Think of yourself.. Think of being bulletproof.
and yes the video/mini movie is amazing.

“You shout it out,
But I can’t hear a word you say
I’m talking loud not saying much
I’m criticized but all your bullets ricochet
You shoot me down, but I get up

[Chorus:]
I’m bulletproof, nothing to lose
Fire away, fire away
Ricochet, you take your aim
Fire away, fire away
You shoot me down but I won’t fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down but I won’t fall
I am titanium

[Sia:]
Cut me down
But it’s you who’ll have further to fall
Ghost town and haunted love
Raise your voice, sticks and stones may break my bones
I’m talking loud not saying much

[Chorus:]
I’m bulletproof, nothing to lose
Fire away, fire away
Ricochet, you take your aim
Fire away, fire away
You shoot me down but I won’t fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down but I won’t fall
I am titanium
I am titanium
I am titanium

[Sia:]
Stone-hard, machine gun
Fired at the ones who run
Stone-hard as bulletproof glass

[Chorus:]
You shoot me down but I won’t fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down but I won’t fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down but I won’t fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down but I won’t fall
I am titanium
I am titanium “

  1. Wonderful sory and it’s amazing what we can learn about life.
Our complications are eased by the simple beauty of another’s actions and words.
Reminds me of something I heard once that really made sense to me.
“My life was so much simpler, when everything I owned fit in a toy box”.
So, “Catch me if you can, I’m going back”.
    Peace within us all.
