Hot Prom Night In The City

In the middle of May we had a small heatwave. In the middle of this heatwave I was having things done to my house. Floors being sanded and PROM.
It was a fluster of shopping.. Bobby pin last minute trips to CVS and of course hair dying!
With the every other month shower dying treatment.
Pre prom Tuesday I noticed Maia walking with her hands holding up her super bargain Sue Wong dress.
We obtained said bargain dress form Ideeli in January at a red sale.. A 490 dollar dress for 79 whoopoo dollars.. but Maia was too embarrassed to admit it was too long.. Fast forward to two phone calls later and I found an ex seamstress across the alley down the street and five houses.
Oxygen mask in hand dear sweet Sharon agreed to do the dress at whatever price we thought would work.. I gave her fifty bucks and a million thank yous. And by Friday she was set for prom.
Pre prom eve we set her hair in pin curls and hit the beds..
All day long she wore those pin curls like a badge till it was time to reveal her Kimbra styled hair.
And it was perfect.. At 3:40 I was on my way to drive the girls to the dinner restaurant of choice. A small steak house overlooking Pine Lake.
At 6 I had the girls back in my car for a trip to the beach for photos.
I took the girls on a photo shoot of a lifetime. With Emily’s mom along for the ride. We headed to the beach in new buffalo first.. Stopping in front of an old Buick begging for three beautiful young ladies to adorn it.
The most amazing thing about the girls was that they looked right out of classic glamour mags. Maia straight out of the 1920’s Weronika was very early forties and Emily was a fifties film goddess. We also hit the Laporte train station and Stone lake pier.
Each site was filled with gawkers and catcalls.
At the beach one of the girls was invited to skip prom and hang out with them.
It was a very much needed ego boost for the girls.
We swung back to Emily’s house to let them get in the choice ride on the triple charmed trip to the prom.
Emily’s brother in typical NON brother form did a nice thing for his kid sister.. He cleaned his bosses car and detailed it so that he may borrow it to drive the girls in style..
What car you may ask.. Well a jacked Cadillac Escalade.. They needed a step ladder to get in and out.. Nate was the happy big brother helping each of the girls up to the top. For a guy that spends all his time harassing his kid sister he was sure a total gentleman for the prom..
Emily Step dad and her mom piled in my flex and we drove the auditorium.. They set the place up like an Oscar night extravaganza.
All the parents and family members outside with cameras and a long walkway leading to the civic auditorium. A dozen cars in and the kids arrived.. Nate opened the door and a million.. Well maybe a dozen really girls screamed out” Look it’s Nate!” I take it he was popular when attended school a few years back.
He is still a good looking boy.
The girls got out.. Nate of course letting his sister get down on her own a bit.. But it was classic family time.. She ended up screaming for Maia to grab her purse and then Nate realizing to ignore the screaming fans and help his sister.
And then I was off to feed my kids and give the other two the attention they missed all day with prom prep.. 2 hours in drama ensued as a very shy Weronika left the prom early flustered.. It all worked out later. But in that time Maia was worried she had did something wrong.
At 11:15 I was back outside driving the girls home.. After dropping Em off we headed to Weronikas to check on her.. She was grateful we did and was worried she had brought the other two down.. But Maia actually understood and hugged her and said goodnight.
After girl time when we got home a tired mom and a tired Maia slept all through the night.
And Maia slept most of the day..
Did we mention the vampire blood?
